It is a privilege to practice orthodontics. Being an orthodontist allows me to make a positive, lasting difference for each patient, improving their quality of life by increasing their self-esteem and confidence.
After practicing for more than 30 years, I am still excited by the changes that happen during treatment. Seeing a person journey from feeling uncomfortable about their teeth to being secure in their appearance never gets old! I feel fortunate to be part of this transformation and to watch it unfold with each patient.
I was initially drawn to dentistry and then orthodontics as the profession allows me to blend my interests in science and art to create beautiful smiles. Orthodontics allows me to serve others in a very positive and uplifting way.
I love that I regularly see former patients around town and they greet me with bright, wonderful smiles. I love when they stop by the office, years after treatment has concluded, to share photos and stories and tell us how much they love their smile. And I particularly love that I am seeing the extended family members of former patients!
Education and Professional Memberships
I attended Western Kentucky University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science. I enrolled in the Indiana University School of Dentistry, where I was awarded my Doctorate of Dental Surgery, certificate in orthodontics, and a Master of Science in dentistry.
The field of orthodontics has changed immensely since I completed my formal studies. Ongoing innovations in technologies and techniques, furthered by rigorous research, have made treatment more comfortable and timely while delivering exceptional results.
I regularly take professional courses to stay abreast of the new options. Continuing education enables me to apply the most current and effective treatment, and to tailor care to each person’s needs.
In addition to completing courses through the Indiana University School of Dentistry, I attend seminars, lectures, and conferences through local, regional, and national orthodontic and dental organizations.
I am an active member of the:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists
- Indiana Association of Orthodontists (past member of the board of directors, secretary/treasurer, and president)
- Indiana University Orthodontic Alumni Association (past board member, secretary/treasurer, and president)
- American Dental Association
- Indiana Dental Association
- Indianapolis District Dental Society
Beyond the Office
A Brownstown native, I have lived in Shelbyville for more than 30 years and have enjoyed raising my family here. My wife Bobbi is very active in the weekly life of our church and enjoys substitute teaching at the high school level. Bobbi and I have three wonderful adult daughters as well as great son-in-laws, two dogs, and two cats.
In my free time, I enjoy water and snow skiing, cheering on the Colts, Pacers, WKU, and IU sports, being with my family, and entertaining my dogs.
I enjoy volunteering in the community where I live and work. I am an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where I have held various leadership positions and taught Sunday school. I also volunteered for many years with the Shelby County United Fund, where I served as professional drive chairman, drive chairman, board member, and board president.
Clark Orthodontics gives back to and supports the community, too. We sponsor many youth sports teams, numerous school athletic and extracurricular programs, and local charities. We also provide free orthodontic care to people in need through Donated Dental Services.
